The Floating Lab Collective: ReMuseum

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Curated by Laura Roulet, commissioned by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities' 5x5 initiative

The Floating Lab Collective is a group of locally based artists specializing in public interventions and arts-based actions. The ReMuseum is a participatory, mobile experiment that investigates museum processes such as collecting, displaying, valuing, and commodifying objects. Through discussions with D.C. community members, the Floating Lab Collective has selected and replicated personal objects of value from homes and rec centers in neighborhoods such as Deanwood, Brentwood, Petworth, and Anacostia. These objects, along with unique stories delivered by their owners, will be displayed in a retrofitted taco truck at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Edison Place Gallery. These intimate, touching and amusing depictions of place and identity will then be returned to and displayed in their original neighborhoods.
