This screening is presented as part of The Downtown Scene NY Film Series, curated by Adrian Loving.

In the late 1970s, New York City was teetering on the edge of total chaos due to crime, a failed economy, and housing corruption. Narrated by Deborah Harry, Downtown Calling documents the evolution of New York City’s fertile music and art subculture during this period of crisis, and how its collective output continues to play a prominent role in the international fashion, art, and music industries today. Following the screening of Downtown Calling, filmmaker Shan Nicholson leads a discussion moderated by Adrian Loving.
